The objective of the programme is to bring the Commonwealth countries of the world closer together and help forge bonds of friendship and support that will last forever. Educational institutions have selected a participating country as a partner nation and have studied its location, culture, customs and traditions, cuisine, language, history etc. as a learning project. These projects are posted on CYG website and come October, schools will participate in a float parade depicting their chosen country so that other students and citizens of Pune will also be aware of the participating countries.
The best part of the technology so far has been used at the YBR. The CYG 2008 has incorporated a brand new concept called the Youth Baton Relay where a baton will be carried through 9 states in India and will carry water from all over the country. This is the first ever Baton Relay in the history of the Commonwealth Youth Games.
