Yuvraj Singh not to play in IPL 2012
Posted on January 26th, 2012 1 commentPune Warriors India the Sahara team will miss the services of Yuvraj Singh due to his ongoing cancer treatment now being done in America.
Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh is unlikely to play in the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League due to the ongoing treatment of his non-malignant lung tumour.
Yuvraj is currently in the United States for treatment of his tumour and once it is removed, the recuperation process will start.
“Yuvraj went to UK and from there has travelled to the United States for an advanced treatment,” said a source.
“The oncologists who will be treating him in the US will take a call on whether he would undergo surgery or any other form of treatment. But that’s for sure, he won’t be playing in the IPL.”
The tumor is situated between the lungs and the heart and so operating it “will not be easy”, the source suggested.
“The Indian doctors have told Yuvraj’s family that the operation of this tumor won’t be easy. If it can heal with medicine, nothing like it.”
It has been tough going for Yuvraj since his Man of the Series performance in India’s World Cup victory last year.
An injury kept him out of the tour of the West Indies and his tour of England was cut short by a finger injury sustained during the Nottingham Test.
The last time Yuvraj played competitive cricket was the Tests against West Indies last November.

ipl pune team ground – Sahara Pune Warriors
Posted on January 14th, 2012 No commentsMCA Pune International Cricket Centre is the newly constructed cricket stadium in the city of Pune, Maharashtra. The stadium has come up in the Gahunje area of Mumbai-Pune Expressway near city. The stadium is the headquarter for Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) and home ground for the Maharashtra cricket team as well Sahara Pune Warriors, the IPL team. This is a state-of-the-art modern stadium, which looks to be one of the best stadiums in India. The brand new Pune cricket stadium is the home ground for the new IPL team Sahara Pune Warriors. Pune IPL team will play all their home matches at this stadium.
MCA had appointed Hopkins Architects to design a MCA Pune International Cricket Centre with 44,000 seat stadium in Pune just few hours from financial city Mumbai. Earlier, Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium was being considered for refitting the stadium for the city of Pune, but as stadium was owned by Pune Municpal Corporation, conflict arosed which led the decision to built the brand new stadium for the city of Pune.
The cost of building the stadium would be around 300 Crore Rupees or $65 Million USD. The stadium would be built in the area of 125,000m2.
Sumedha Earth Movers commenced the levelling and excavation work on the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) international centre at Village Gahunje in 2009.
The work on phase one of the Rs 300 crore Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, which is being built near Gahunje village, has been completed. The international stadium, the work for which began in 2009, was completed in April this year but owing to various delays in getting permissions and technical glitches, the work eventually concluded under a revised contract in December.
MCA president Ajay Shirke said, “Under phase one, we will have a seating capacity of 44,000 people. The seating arrangement in the stadium is such that all the spectators, irrespective of the stands they are seated, will have an unobstructed view of the entire playing field. We have kept the minutest details in mind so that the stadium is a viewer-friendly venue.” Shirke said that of the Rs 207 crore that was promised by Sahara, a total of two installments of Rs 67 crore and 41 crore have been released. “Further payments will be made as and when the stadium is completed and handed over,” he said.
Shirke said the proposal to host IPL (Indian Premier League) matches came up for discussion at the recent IPL governing council meeting. The committee, however, proposed that first class matches should be held before hosting international and IPL matches to gauge the playing surface at the venue.
“We decided to host the first class matches first and bagged an opportunity to host the semi-final between Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh from December 21,” said Shirke.
The game, which was originally to be played in Ratnagiri, will now be played at the new stadium.
The work on the second phase of the stadium will begin from June 2012 and is likely to be completed by the end of the year. The second phase will see the expansion of the east and west stands. As many as 90 corporate boxes will be built in the stadium. The 1.25 lakh sq feet stadium will be the first stadium in the country to have a special, quick-drying outfield.
The home matches of IPL’s Pune Warriors will be played in the upcoming edition of the league. The total capacity of the stadium will be 52,000 with the grand stand alone accommodating 10,000 spectators. The road leading to the stadium will be completed by February 15.

IPL 2012 season five starts April 4
Posted on January 8th, 2012 No commentsThe IPL fever for the year 2012 is catching up and with the poor performance from Indian Cricket team in Australia, fans are now looking forward to a neutral IPL T20 which will see all top players in action and putting up the best show.
The dates for year 2012 were recently announced by BCCI
The season five – 2012- of the Indian Premier League (IPL), comprising nine teams and 76 matches, will begin and end in Chennai, with the opening match on April 4 and the final on May 27. The teams will play each other at home and away during a league phase consisting of 72 games at 12, possibly 13, venues, beginning with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings playing Champions League T20 winners Mumbai Indians.
The Pune Warriors franchise will host eight games at the new stadium in Pune, subject to its completion. In 2011, Pune had to stage their ‘home’ games at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Dharamsala and Visakhapatman will also host two games each, and Cuttack is listed as an alternate venue to Hyderabad for two matches.
The first Qualifier, which will be contested by the top two teams in the league, and the Eliminator, contested by Nos. 3 and 4, will be held in Bangalore. Chennai will host the second Qualifier, which will be played between the winner of the Eliminator and the loser of the first Qualifier, and the tournament final.
The tournament is scheduled to begin 12 days after the Asia Cup final and a week after the end of South Africa’s tour of New Zealand. At present there are three international series that will clash with the 2012 IPL and could affect player availability for both the franchises and the countries. Sri Lanka are hosting England in April, while West Indies host Australia and then travel to England in May.
The next player auction for the IPL is scheduled for February 4. Stay tuned for more information
