  • google voice – One phone number, online voicemail, and enhanced call features

Posted on July 17th, 2009 Dimakh 1 comment

Google voice service is all set to be launched and take the internet telephony by storm. Google will now allow one number for all your calls and SMS. so no need of multiple phones and tracking for home, office and mobile. This service is provided by google free of cost and its the old GrandCentral, which google acquired in July of 2007 and is now providing the service free of cost. Google Voice is currently available by invite only . Get an Invite if you are interested in getting an invite for google voice. Please note that Google Voice is only available for sign up in the US. read more about google voice and its features from here.

One number for all your calls and SMS

Will we get this feature in India ? will we get google voice in India.  It would be worth the wait and I am sure telecom players like reliance, airtel, tata indicom would be gearing up for this.

But this would be a good solution for Indian software companies and entrepreneurs in Indian cities like pune, bangalore, delhi etc to use this service to virtually stay in USA and get a mobile identity. SO for those who are doing international business and are looking for setting up office in USA, this would be a great help. But you many not be able to eliminate phone services providers like vonage, skype etc as you would still need a US number to use this google service.

The Google voice is set to launch in the month of July in USA.

  • Indian National Congress website launched prior to indian elections 2009

Posted on March 24th, 2009 Dimakh 1 comment

Just after a few days from the time I had done a post about comparing BJP website and Congress website, Congress launched its new site to cope up with online social media marketing and bringing a face to the web campaign. The new look of the website for congress features the prime minister Manamohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on the homepage.

    Aam Aadmi Ke Badhte Kadam
    Har Kadam Par Bharat Buland

This is the message that congress wants to give as election slogan. The website is not that attractive and not upto the mark of BJP which has lot of interesting features and seems to be updated more often. The site also seems to be done in frames technology which is very outdated and non search engine friendly. A very few ways to allow people interaction or no use of blogs and videos.

The our prime minister link takes us to http://pmindia.nic.in/ the official website of the prime minister.

A very nice picture of Rajiv Gandhi on the website gives it a different charm

    Rajiv Gandhi

    1944-1991

“The Congress, as the party which won freedom and built up independent India through non-violence, must continue to work for the larger acceptance of non-violence within the country and in the international community.

The work of improving the quality of life of our people, of safeguarding Indian unity and communal harmony and of strengthening peace and cooperation the world over will keep the Congress busy for years.

This is our agenda for the next century”

    Rajiv Gandhi

  • BJP website and Indian National Congress website

Posted on March 22nd, 2009 Dimakh 3 comments

You may like to read the updated blog written just after this blog was posted.

Just do a google search for congress website and the first two links that you will see take you to the INDIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS website and second result shows Welcome to Our Website which is also a Indian Congress website. Shockingly Congress is still busy in congratulating Smt Sonia Gandhi for the elections won in 2004.

Here’s the full text of the homepage :-

Congratulations to Smt Sonia Gandhi for Leading The Congress Party to Victory in the Lok Sabha Elections 2004.This is not only a Victory for Secular India but also a resounding defeat for the Forces of Communalism.

The second step is to select language of your choice and if you do not select english then you are asked to download font which is a very old technology way and not as per latest trends.

On the other hand if you do a google search for BJP WEBSITE , it will show you good google search engine optimized results for BJP. and the first link takes you to the BJP website. The site is designed with a good interface and atleast allows you to get to the point and find the information that you are looking for.

Interestingly it allows an interaction option by inviting you to give your email ID to regularly get press releases into your email box. A effective search powered by google allows you to get maximum information from the website and show cases the vast information present in the website which otherwise would have been difficult to find.

So overall a much professional output as compared to congress website but both websites really need to gear up for the elections and allow maximum people to interact from the web front. This is the status of the websites of political parties in India.

  • Google browser chrome initial feedback

Posted on September 3rd, 2008 Dimakh No comments

Just a few minutes ago I downloaded the google chrome browser. Seems to be good and fast and it smartly got all my settings from IE. Has a few interesting features and I am writing this blog post using google chrome itself. One of the major drawbacks that I have noticed is it has NO GOOGLE TOOLBAR ADD ON. I was really surprised to figure out that I was not missing something.. but google has actually not provided google tool bar add on for their own browser. I am sure they must be working on something to provide this feature. I did notice that the good features like the search box has been provided in the “http” box itself where google chrome encourages you to “type to search” and makes life simpler. But I miss the google page rank, autofill to begin with and I am yet to explore other features. The book mark feature seems to be working fine. A new feature of the new incognito window is a smart idea and will be very useful and will help anyone who is using public terminals for browsing. But this may be harmful for corporates.

This is what google chrome has to say about incognito window

Pages you view in this window won’t appear in your browser history or search history, and they won’t leave other traces, like cookies, on your computer after you close the incognito window. Any files you download or bookmarks you create will be preserved.

And one of the most surprising aspect for google chrome is that it does not have a version for linux and Mac when it was launched.

  • Review: “Qmail Quickstarter: Install, Set Up and Run your own Email Server”

Posted on July 18th, 2008 shantanu No comments

I got my copy of “Qmail Quickstarter: Install, Set Up and Run your own
Email Server” by Kyle Wheeler. I knew Kyle due to his helpful tips on
qmail list and so immediately grabbed the copy and started reading it. I
happen to teach qmail to my students and so read it more from a
perspective of a teacher than a critic. Being a fast reader, I finished
the entire book in few hours.
