Iphone 4s price and release in India

The release date for iphone 4s in India is expected to be around December 2011. The price for an unlocked iphone 4s in India is expected to be around INR Rs.40,000/-
The iphone 4s may be available for pre order on various networks like Reliance, Vodafone, Aircel and Airtel but the policy is yet to be announced and may be out only in late december. So crowd in India will have to postpone the purchase of iphone4s till december and christmas season rather than buying in Diwali season.

I have few questions regarding iPhone 4S. I have never purchased an Apple product but I’m looking forward to buy the iPhone 4S. I’ll be grateful if you can answer my questions.
Q1. What is locked/unlocked iPhone? Is the unlocked iPhone 4S legal and fully functional? Or does it have any problems?
Q2. What would be the price of an iPhone 4S, WITH and WITHOUT the 2 year contract?
Q3. Since SIRI requires internet, which 3G plan do you suggest that is unlimited like the broadbands and yet very fast?

Here are few of my answers – may not be completely accurate
A1. The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a contract commitment. You can activate and use it on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice. The unlocked iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S will not work with CDMA-based carriers
The unlocked iPhone is the best choice. It arrives without a micro-SIM card, so you’ll need an active micro-SIM card from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using it, simply insert the micro-SIM card into the slot on your iPhone and turn it on by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.

A2. The price for India is yet to be announced for locked as well as unlocked phones
A3. With SIRI being launched I am hoping that service providers will come with a better price option. Ideally a plan costing around Rs.600 per month should be sufficient for an average user.
